About
A route map for your backups
Most homes have a few laptops and desktops and a vague idea of where their files are copied. LaptopDesktop.info turns that into a map: each computer is a line, each copy of its files is a station, and the map shows at a glance which computers would survive a dead drive, a stolen laptop, ransomware or a house fire.
The checks follow the 3-2-1 rule published by US-CERT (now part of CISA) in Data Backup Options, plus CISA's #StopRansomware Guide on offline backups and restore tests. Where the site uses its own rule of thumb, it says so beside the result. See Sources.
What it is not
- Not a backup service: it never stores, copies or sees your files.
- Not backup software: nothing to install, and it never connects to your computer.
- Not a repair or recovery service, and there is no support staff or phone line.
- Not affiliated with Microsoft, Apple, Google, Dropbox or any backup or storage company. Product names are used only to describe where copies live.
If a drive has failed and the files matter, stop using it and talk to a professional data recovery service before trying anything yourself.
LaptopDesktop.info is a WeldonPC.com site. Its public pages carry one banner ad from AdEngine, WeldonPC's own small ad network, which for now shows WeldonPC's own services; your map carries none (see Privacy).
